Identity & Print

Lab — a conversation about developing cultural talent — was a symposium held at Summerhall
in Edinburgh in August 2012, hosted by Trigger in association with NT Creative Arts and Shift. Over the course of two days, talks were held based on four themes: failure, context, diversity and resources. Three guest speakers from different facets of the creative industries in the UK and further afield were invited to speak on each subject. To share their views on the theme, point out where they saw problems and where they felt there were opportunities.

In a joint commission with Richy Lamb of Owned and Operated, a bright, playful, ‘movable’ identity was developed for Lab which was applied to
two colour risograph printed programmes, presentation screens, pens, notepads and
online communications prior to the event.
The intention for the identity was to lend an appearance to materials that was confrontational but positively so. ‘In your face’ and encouraging in equal measure, as the conversations held
at Lab aspired to be.
