Jane Gowans
Captain

Print & Promotion

The discovery of an old photo of her grandfather in naval uniform prompted the creation of Jane Gowans’ Captain collection — a ‘striking and wearable range’ rooted in her fascination for sequences and repetition. The collection takes
its cues from the practical tools of the sea, transforming ropes, knots and compass points into beautiful burnished rings, studs, necklaces and bracelets.

For promotion of Captain amongst customers and retailers, electronically distributed look books and line sheets were created, employing use of geometric repeat patterns and layers based on the design elements of the collection. Lavish seasonal colours were selected to harmonise with the model photography and reinforce the maritime theme. A commemorative Captain mini newspaper was printed to distribute at London Fashion Week, prior to the collection’s official launch. This presented an opportunity to make use of the graphic elements, which are normally limited to appearing in look books, to be explored in a larger, more tactile and rewarding printed format.
