Black Box | A Curious Design Boutique
Black Box was an independent design boutique and jewellery workshop, situated in the winding narrow streets of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The shop stocked a wide range of contemporary jewellery, homeware, illustration and various other desirable trinkets, all created by independent crafts people.
When it came to styling the boutique’s brand,
a decision was made to ‘say more with less’. The name Black Box had already been chosen, so it seemed natural to create a square shaped icon based to represent it. This curious but friendly-looking chap often stood alone, as the brave hero, within signage and other promotional material. The proportions of the box were carried over into square shaped launch invitations, gift vouchers and business cards — screen printed by hand or with letterpress to capture the crafty spirit of the boutique.
